Hi! I’m Melanie Brooks, MSW, RSW. I am a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). I completed my Bachelor of Social Work at Toronto Metropolitan University (formally Ryerson University) and then earned my Masters of Social Work with a specialization in children and their families at the University of Toronto. I have provided counselling to children, youth, and their families in community mental health services and school settings.
I provide individual therapy to children, adolescents, and young adults experiencing anxiety, depression, emotion dysregulation, interpersonal challenges, and life transitions. Those who have difficulty managing stress, understanding their emotions and behaviours may find it helpful to work through challenges and develop coping skills to navigate life experiences during therapy sessions. As a current School Social Worker with the York Region District School Board, I also help students and families navigate academic, social and mental health challenges.
My approach to therapy offers a warm, collaborative and non-judgmental approach with an emphasis on the therapeutic relationship. I have experience using a wide range of treatment modalities, such as, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused Therapy, Strengths-Based Therapy. I strive to create a safe space working alongside children, adolescents and families to establish goals and a plan to achieve them in hopes of creating meaningful and sustainable change! Please feel free to be in touch and book a free 15-Minute Consultation to see if we would be a good fit to work together!
