Depression, Anxiety, & Coping Skills
We offer support to those struggling with symptoms of Depression and Anxiety. We help people identify when and why specific symptoms may be getting in the way of their goals and them to develop coping plans to shift these patterns. We also support those having trouble managing their mood and stress levels in effective ways and explore strategies to help people prevent/recover from burnout related to their workplace/career. We help individuals to gain an understanding of how their symptoms may have developed initially, how they can be exacerbated, and how they can cope in healthier ways, drawing on their own strengths. We do so by utilizing techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy.
Relationship/Social Issues
We offer support for individuals struggling with relational challenges including difficulties with friends, family, partners/potential partners, and colleagues. From dating and confidence/self-esteem related concerns, to exploring attachment styles and their impacts on current relationships, We help people understand their patterns and move forward in the ways they want to. Understanding how past relationships have shaped us, using Attachment-Based and Internal Family Systems modalities, We support people to understand the various parts of themselves, what each part may be needing, and how they can best communicate these needs and wants.
Trauma and Attachment
Most of Lia’s career has focused on supporting people who have experienced interpersonal trauma, including those who have suffered physical and sexual abuse as well as survivors of Human Trafficking. She uses the skills she developed while working with these populations to serve adults struggling with issues stemming from childhood trauma and neglect and/or attachment issues. She continues to provide trauma therapy adults who have experienced abuse and neglect. She uses Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and somatic techniques to help people understand what their bodies experience when they are triggered, what it feels like when they are regulated, and how to safely move back into their Window of Tolerance, where they are able to cope effectively. She supports people to broaden their window, helping them to draw on their internal resilience and assisting them to find new ways of healing in their lives.
Parenting CONCERNS
Lai also supports parents with a range of difficulties that are far more common than is typically realized. Parenting is just plain hard for many reasons. Each of us face unique daily struggles and have our own attachment histories. All of this can make attuning to our children’s needs in the moment far easier said than done. Lia provides a non-judgmental and compassionate space to explore these challenges and assist you to develop a path forward that feels manageable. From difficulties with tantrums to dealing with picky eating, the foundation of the parent child relationship is co-regulation. Using Attachment-Based, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy techniques she works with parents to increase their own coping resources. This helps them understand and plan for their responses to their children’s emotions and behaviours. This type of support lays the groundwork for being better able to regulate their own emotions and in turn, have the skills to help their children in the way that they want to in a variety of areas.
